grow your own hops

the homework isn’t always beer. if you have any kind of a green thumb you owe it to yourself to plant a vine or two of hops. that’s right, you to can grow one of the four ingredients of beer in your own back yard (or anyone elses backyard just be sure to ask first).

just so you know, brewing your own beer with hops that you grew is as rewarding as it gets.

hey, look… shirts!

for whatever reason we never got around to making shirts. I don’t really know why but it doesn’t matter now. why? because you can buy a shirt if you really, really, really want to wear our logo around to pubs, festivals and parties. and it’s probably a good idea because the logo will un-nerd you enough to let you talk the the hottie over there. go ahead, you know you want to.

The beginning of the year means the arrival of hop rhizomes. These are the beginning roots of a hop plant which grows as a vine up to 25 feet during the season. A rhizome is genetically identical to the plant it came from. At the end of the season the plant will die but the rhizome will live on. If you make it to the Bistro you can buy your own rhizomes to grow.

Bay Area’s 5th Annual Firkin Gravity Festival begins Saturday, April 5th, 2008 at 11am, and is presented by Triple Rock Brewery & Alehouse in Berkeley, CA.

Admission price is $20.00 which includes a logo glass and 5 tasting tickets; plus a wooden token for a full pour.
