The Hop Crisis! Gads. Whatayamean no IPA?!? Huh… These guys are kidding right? Nope. They aren’t. It’s a full on problem caused in part by other countries buying hops of any kind to brew “canoe beer” for their masses. This leaves craft brewers that didn’t have a contract for the hops they used in an empty kettle. November 3, 2007 was the American Homebrewers Association’s (AHA) Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day; on this day more than 1,900 participants brewed 1,970 gallons of beer at 152 sites worldwide. Over 550 new homebrewers learned to brew this year on Teach A Friend to Homebrew Day. The AHA celebrates brewing and encourages new brewers to enjoy the hobby of homebrewing through Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day every year on the first Saturday in November.

An AHA Rally is where America’s professional and amateur craft brewers get together to talk beer and brewing. “The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) is really trying to create an experience for the AHA member by pairing up homebrewers with craft brewers. It gives them the opportunity to share their passion for beer. More than 100 judges labored for three days to evaluate 2,793 beers and pick the best entries and top breweries for this year’s Great American Beer Festival. A total of 222 medals were awarded in 75 beer style categories and top breweries and brewers were designated based on the total number of medals won.  The five top awards recognize small, medium and large breweries and small and large brewpubs.
